Episode 2 “The Search for Civilisation”

Palenque was a Maya city state in southern Mexico that flourished in the 7th century under the rule of Pakal (Pacal the Great).

Palenque, a mid-sized settlement, is thought to have been populated from 226 BC to around 799 AD. After its decline it was absorbed into the jungle. Less than 10% of the city is excavated.
